What Does Abandoned Checkout Mean in Shopify?
In Shopify, an abandoned checkout occurs when a customer starts the checkout process by entering their contact details but does not complete the purchase. Shopify tracks these automatically and surfaces them in Analytics under Checkout funnels. Unlike an abandoned cart (items added, checkout never started), an abandoned checkout means the customer was already one step in. Shopify’s built-in recovery emails target this group specifically.
