What Is the Difference Between One Page Checkout and Multi Step Checkout?

A one-page checkout displays all fields (contact, shipping, payment) on a single scrollable page. A multi-step checkout breaks them into sequential steps, typically three to four. Multi-step outperforms one-page in most ecommerce contexts because it reduces cognitive load, shows progress clearly, and allows step-by-step validation. One-page checkout works for simple purchases with minimal required information. For most Shopify stores, the native multi-step checkout is the stronger default.
