Why Is iDEAL Changing to Wero?
iDEAL is not disappearing — it is evolving. iDEAL 2.0 is the updated version of the Dutch payment standard, built to work across European borders using the European Payments Initiative (EPI) infrastructure. Wero is a separate but related product: a pan-European digital wallet launched by EPI that works across Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. The two are built on shared infrastructure but serve different use cases. iDEAL remains the dominant online payment method in the Netherlands. Wero adds a mobile wallet layer on top of that network, extending reach across borders. For Dutch ecommerce stores, iDEAL remains essential. Wero becomes relevant as you expand to other European markets.
